The Velo Development Foundation provides a series of free mentored road and mountain bike riding programs for juniors in Northern California. Intended to help promote positive growth and support for the aspiring junior cyclist community, each program is unique and helps build local community awareness for all types of cycling.

Rides will be mentored by experienced riders, racers, and coaches all volunteering their time to promote youth cycling. For each ride there will be a head mentor who will be responsible for the route and ride organization.

Four Whole Athlete Juniors have been selected to represent the United States at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Mont Sainte Anne, Canada on Sept 1-4, 2010: Sofia Hamilton, Will Curtis, Zach Valdez and Tony Smith.

The Whole Athlete riders comprise half the eight-rider USA Junior team competing at the World Championships. All four will also race the World Cup Final in Windham, NY the week before Worlds, getting a taste of the competition they will face at the pinnacle event of the sport!

Santa Cruz Jr. Cycling Club

Santa Cruz Jr. Cycling Club is an organization focused on developing youth into future community members and leaders. They accomplish this through a number of different programs, while enjoying riding bikes.

The team overall had an excellent season, both as a team and individually, and next season many of our younger riders will be moving up to the Varsity level which will require them to train at a higher level to be remain competitive and at the same time prepare them to move up to Cat 1 at Nationals.  Almost all riders are returning for the 2011 cross country season.
